The 55th Annual St. Patrick'S Day Parade

55th Parade March 11 2023

The 55th Annual Shamrock Club of Wisconsin St. Patrick’s Day Parade will take place on March 11, 2023.

Stepping off on Wisconsin Avenue at MLK Drive, the parade   will feature 100+ units including Irish dance groups, pipe & drum   corps, local celebrities and dignitaries.

A Week of Irish Celebrations

Building on a successful partnership, the Shamrock Club of Wisconsin and  the Westown Association along with presenting sponsor, Miller Lite,   continue to collaborate on Wisconsin’s oldest and largest St.  Patrick’s  Day celebration. Although the Shamrock Club of Wisconsin is  celebrating  its 54th anniversary of producing the parade, the event  dates back to  1843,  predating the incorporation of the State of Wisconsin and the City  of  Milwaukee. Milwaukee’s parade is the 6th oldest in the nation.

The Milwaukee Parade History

Milwaukee  celebrated its first St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 17,  1843. One  of the earliest in the United States, the parade predates  Wisconsin’s  statehood and Milwaukee’s incorporation as a city!

  • It was the first St. Patrick’s Day Parade held outside of the 13 original colonies
  • The  parade was originally inspired and influenced by two Irish  movements  of the time: the Repeal Movement and the Temperance Movement

The  modern version of the parade began in 1967 with the Inaugural  Shamrock  Club of Wisconsin’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Wisconsin  Avenue.

  • construction moved the parade route over the years, but in 2002 it returned to its downtown home
  • today the parade celebrates and honors Milwaukee’s Irish heritage and the Irish-American experience with the downtown community
